The Office for Sponsored Programs at the University of Connecticut, Storrs Campus, is seeking a Pre-award Administrative Services Specialist to provide administrative support in a high-volume, service-oriented research administration office.
The ideal candidate will provide customer service to departmental staff and researchers and specialized administrative support to the pre-award services professional staff at the University. This position will serve as the initial contact and information source for the unit and will facilitate communications between researchers, staff and sponsoring agencies.
The Administrative Services Specialist will provide initial review on all grant proposals to ensure for accuracy, completeness and appropriate documentation, and will independently follow-up as appropriate to clarify policies, procedures and/or resolve problems. The Administrative Services Specialist will be responsible for the assignment of internal account numbers, data entry, record creation, and ongoing record of status for each grant application and may provide oversight and supervision of students hired to work in the office. This position will provide guidance to the constituents across the University to facilitate the preparation and routing of grant proposals for approval through the Office for Sponsored Programs requiring written and verbal correspondence with University offices and outside agencies to request/provide information, interpret and communicate information as needed. Additional administrative duties may be assigned.
Required qualifications and skills include: (1) Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and one to three years of related experience with familiarity in administrative specialty, or three to five years of related experience with demonstrated knowledge of administrative specialty and ability to independently resolve problems. (2) Good organizational and interpersonal skills; (3) Must be computer-literate and use Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel. (4) Must be available to work an established schedule between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and occasional overtime as necessitated in order to accommodate customer-service objectives.
This is a full-time, twelve-month, permanent position. Salary will be commensurate with experience, within a target salary range of $38,000-$42,000.
